Tysons Tower Club

The Tysons Chamber held their 2018 Board Installation event last week at the Tower Club. Virginia Case, the Chair of the Board, welcomed members and guests to the breakfast. Since I have worked with Virginia on projects in the Marketing Committee, I was happy to see her taking over the Board!

As can be seen from his frequent appearances in Tysons, Congressman Gerry Connolly is a supporter of the Chamber. Given that the economic engine of the area contributes so much to the Virginia economy, he gives updates frequently here. Similarly issues in the state house are updated by Delegate Mark Keam from Vienna. In short, it is an important ability for the Chamber and its members to have a dialog with these important leaders. Not only will they be helping to give us an outlet to voice concerns, but they keep us updated on the latest issues affecting how we develop our businesses. Best of luck to the incoming board in 2018!

Tysons Corner Center

The day after Thanksgiving, I went to get images of the crowds on 2017 Black Friday at Tysons Corner Center. Above all the days that I come to photograph at the mall, this is the most crowded! Knowing how difficult it would be to get around the mall at this time, I arrived very early just to get in the building.

Although I can be self conscious about making photos in public, this day is not a problem. Obviously, there is a lot on the minds of the people shopping on Black Friday. Some are there for the deals, some are searching for gift ideas, and some are just there to see the spectacle. Nevertheless, it makes for some great dynamic images. So many people in the mall, going by advertisements, and shopping in stores. Have you started your holiday shopping yet?

Valo Park – Tysons, VA

Envisioning the future is important for the plans for Tysons. With this in mind, the Tysons Chamber created a new signature event, the 2017 Tysons 2050. At this time the event was separated into Live, Work and Play sections. Community leaders in these areas talked about how they see Tysons in light of the decisions being made today.

Valo Park was a perfect venue to illustrate a vision of the future. After all the region is growing quickly in 2017. Moreover it could be a metropolis 33 years into the future. In the vendor area, high technology companies displayed new products. Together with the speakers, this sparked interesting conversations in the venue. With attention to the future, I felt privileged to be documenting the evening. Regardless of how things look in 2050, events like this will keep the long view shorter as we roll along.
