Social Distancing and Drive In Movies at Tysons Corner Center

Taking Care Tysons

Tysons, Virginia

Presently, the world is adapting to changes to everyday life. With this in mind, these are photos of social distancing changes implemented at Tysons Corner Center during the Covid-19 pandemic. Although we are not yet back to normal, you can visit, walkthrough, and do some shopping. Of course, I have missed my assignments there, so this was an appropriate first assignment back since February!

Throughout the center, there are stickers showing a six-foot distance with reminders to stay apart from those who you do not reside. Additionally, there are hand sanitizing stations that are touchless. At their ‘Taking Care’ website, all the policy changes with respect to social distancing are explained so that you can view them prior to visiting.

While I was making these photos, I noticed many people taking advantage of the changes. The sanitizing stations were frequently used as people walked through entrances. Also, most shoppers wear masks and keep their distance moving through the large hallways. At this time, I am encouraged. The Tysons community is working together to lessen the effects of the coronavirus so that we can hopefully return to normal.

Drive in Movies

To give the community more of an opportunity to get out of the house, Tysons Corner Center also hosts a series of drive-in movies. Additionally, it is a fund raiser for Second Story. With your donation, you can get in to see the feature with your car tailgate as a seat! Their next show is this Friday, August 14, so visit their site to get their details to start next weekend!

Legacy Scenic

On this occasion, I went to the Chantilly, Virginia offices of Legacy Scenic. As can be seen, this is not only an office space but a workshop, design lab, and warehouse in one! Being that a photographer has access to look behind the curtain at events, this is look behind the curtain – behind the curtain!

For large events, I have seen elaborate branded sets where speakers, and presentations are made against camera-ready backdrops. Legacy Scenic is the company that creates these sets from scratch. While they have

the experience in creating these, you can work with them to design how your set will look. On account of the elements on a set being custom, they have the capability to fabricate what you need from small to large details. I photographed them working with the large, noisy, and sometimes sparking machines. These were amazing for photos!

If you visit their updated website, you can see my images added to their photos of completed sets. Given that this is an election year, you will likely see more of their work on news channels this fall. When trade shows come back, you will undoubtedly see them there as well. Thanks to Virginia and the team at StraTac Marketing for the opportunity to see the magic behind this creative company. Also, thanks to the team at Legacy who was very patient with me as I asked so many questions while I was there. They have almost as many cools toys to play with at work as photographers!

Capital One Center Movies

Tysons, Virginia

The weekends are now filled with more activities as we figure out what kind of events can be held while socially distancing. With this in mind the Capital One Center Movies are a terrific way to get out and enjoy some summer activities! In fact, you can get in a movie on a big screen, food delivery from Curbside Kitchen, and fresh air out of the house!

Obviously, I am excited about working with a new client. At this time, Capital One has the tallest building in the landscape with more on the way. Tysons East is anticipating a performance arts space, a Wegman’s, and other new spaces that are quickly rising into the sky. Hopefully, I can get more photos. The towering M2 tower dominates the skyline here, and makes for a recognizable landmark here.

Every weekend, they are showing 3 movies from Friday to Sunday. Donations made during the event benefit the nonprofit, Second Story. The pandemic and subsequent lock down has created a need for support. For this reason, it is a great cause to support.

As can be seen, the spaced-out layout of cars gives you plenty of room to tailgate. I particularly enjoyed seeing how families are setting up a spread for the drive in. Also, it has just been fun to get out of the house to make more Tysons photos. Stay tuned to the blog, I look forward to making more photos at the expanding Capital One Center!
