Last weekend’s 2019 Summer Showcase photos are ready to view! We came back to the Hilton McLean for another DC Area Arthur Murray event. As can be seen in the photos, we had a ‘Hollywood’ theme for the day. The 10,000+ photos are sorted by studio and posted here:

Student Showcase

In contrast to the last Showcase, I photographed in both rooms. By comparison, the smooth room was setup very differently. On this occasion, they setup a black backdrop with large HOLLYWOOD letters. Up against this background, I worried about black and white costumes. In reality, it was not too bad when reviewing the photos. With this in mind, please send me some feedback on how these look. It is a departure from their regular setup!

This time, I had a turn in the rhythm room. As has been noted, this is a more intimate space. Being that the floor is smaller, and the audience is right next to the floor, you are really front and center! I love the energy that floods the room. It really comes off in the images!

2019 Summer Reception – Tysons Partnership

The Tysons Partnership held their 2019 Summer Reception at the Kingston earlier this month. Prior to the general gathering downstairs, there was a VIP reception in the Sky Bridge. Seven floors above the ground level, the atrium featured dimming windows which were needed on this occasion. After welcome remarks from the Partnership and sponsors, the event moved downstairs.

2019 Summer Reception

In the outside garden area of the Kingston, to illustrate, the Summer Reception was in full swing. Of course the grilling food, and the other event sponsors giving out food were nice attractions, but the puppies were the big hit! At this time, adoptable puppies from the Wolf Trap Animal rescue were there to give out puppy cuddles and kisses. Even more, the warm weather, and shady garden area of the Kingston gave a pleasant vibe. Happy Summer!

2019 Tysons Walkabout – Tysons Partnership

Walking through Tysons

Last week, I photographed the 2019 Tysons Walkabout event for the Tysons Partnership. Although there were some clouds and a little rain this morning, there was still a hearty group of walkers participating. To be sure, they did not have a downpour like at the Tailgate, so we walked the whole route. Newly appointed Tysons Walking Ambassador John Foust remarked on the efforts to improve walkability in the area. Following a police escort, the group then headed out to Tysons Blvd.

It is important to realize that this was a moving target for me. Because they were constantly on the move, I had to sprint and position my cameras like a paparazzo to catch the group in front of the large buildings. To be sure this was a physically challenging shoot, but I really enjoyed seeing the walking trails that gives us access to nature in the middle of Tysons!
