Social Distancing and Drive In Movies at Tysons Corner Center

Taking Care Tysons

Tysons, Virginia

Presently, the world is adapting to changes to everyday life. With this in mind, these are photos of social distancing changes implemented at Tysons Corner Center during the Covid-19 pandemic. Although we are not yet back to normal, you can visit, walkthrough, and do some shopping. Of course, I have missed my assignments there, so this was an appropriate first assignment back since February!

Throughout the center, there are stickers showing a six-foot distance with reminders to stay apart from those who you do not reside. Additionally, there are hand sanitizing stations that are touchless. At their ‘Taking Care’ website, all the policy changes with respect to social distancing are explained so that you can view them prior to visiting.

While I was making these photos, I noticed many people taking advantage of the changes. The sanitizing stations were frequently used as people walked through entrances. Also, most shoppers wear masks and keep their distance moving through the large hallways. At this time, I am encouraged. The Tysons community is working together to lessen the effects of the coronavirus so that we can hopefully return to normal.

Drive in Movies

To give the community more of an opportunity to get out of the house, Tysons Corner Center also hosts a series of drive-in movies. Additionally, it is a fund raiser for Second Story. With your donation, you can get in to see the feature with your car tailgate as a seat! Their next show is this Friday, August 14, so visit their site to get their details to start next weekend!

Legacy Scenic

On this occasion, I went to the Chantilly, Virginia offices of Legacy Scenic. As can be seen, this is not only an office space but a workshop, design lab, and warehouse in one! Being that a photographer has access to look behind the curtain at events, this is look behind the curtain – behind the curtain!

For large events, I have seen elaborate branded sets where speakers, and presentations are made against camera-ready backdrops. Legacy Scenic is the company that creates these sets from scratch. While they have

the experience in creating these, you can work with them to design how your set will look. On account of the elements on a set being custom, they have the capability to fabricate what you need from small to large details. I photographed them working with the large, noisy, and sometimes sparking machines. These were amazing for photos!

If you visit their updated website, you can see my images added to their photos of completed sets. Given that this is an election year, you will likely see more of their work on news channels this fall. When trade shows come back, you will undoubtedly see them there as well. Thanks to Virginia and the team at StraTac Marketing for the opportunity to see the magic behind this creative company. Also, thanks to the team at Legacy who was very patient with me as I asked so many questions while I was there. They have almost as many cools toys to play with at work as photographers!

Julie and Ashwood – Summer Wedding

Paris, Virginia

Julie and Ashwood gathered on July 4 weekend for a beautiful summer wedding in mountains of Virginia. Situated on a hill above the town of Paris, these two found this rustic home to be their venue. Since they had never seen the place in person, we met the day before to scout out the best places for the ceremony. The house had beautiful grounds, and was easy to navigate, so we had some extra time together. Being that this was the first time I met the bride; it was a perfect chance to get acquainted.

As we made some photos together, I enjoyed getting some insight into their relationship. Although they do not have a ‘typical’ route to marriage, Ashwood and Julie have an amazing connection. Undoubtedly this lock down time has clarified their bond and brought them to the realization that they should take this step together.

Anytime a couple requests that you photograph their wedding, I am extremely honored. It is a privilege to be in the middle of this important event especially one that is happening in the 2020 pandemic. On this occasion, a limited number of people could attend. In fact, none of the bride’s family could attend in person! As a result, multiple virtual conference rooms were setup so they could view the ceremony from Europe.

Photography Friendship

As I said previously, it is always a privilege to photograph a wedding. However, Ashwood is such a good friend. Years ago, he took a chance on my photography to cover the first TEDxTysons events. Everything was new for us as he and his partners were just starting this endeavor. Whereas he could have the choice of using other photographers, he continues to support what I do by having me back. As I have come to realize, I should always take his call. He has given me access to panoramic views, mind-changing talks, influential thinkers. These two days top them all.

Congratulations, Ashwood and Julie!
