2019 Lumen Rooftop – Tysons Partnership

Rooftop above Tysons, VA

This 2019 Lumen Rooftop shoot was done for the Tysons Partnership. Because their mission is to coordinate efforts among partners to guide the development of the area, these would work nicely for them. From the top, you have a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

2019 Lumen Rooftop

While I have been making images for years in Tysons, this was a perspective that did not exist previously. From here I could see Tysons Corner Center where I photographed so many events from the Plaza. Additionally, you can see the Arthur Murray in Tysons and the McLean Hilton where I base the majority of my ballroom dance shoots. Overall it was a privilege to have this kind of access. Thanks to Rob from HOAR Construction who escorted us to the unfinished rooftop! Additionally thanks to the Tysons Partnership for reaching out and initiating this project.

Professional Competition

To conclude the event, the professionals hit the dance floor together. On this occasion there were five heats of one dance competitions. As I have posted before these are not my favorite going into the shoot. However, I always seems to find favorites as I edit them. To be sure, I do not get as many keepers from the competition floor. Comparatively, ending with professional shows results in more keepers for the photographer. On the other hand, the crowd really ramps up the energy cheering on their teachers. Maybe the photos aren’t the more important thing? 🙂

Dunn Loring Fire Station

Last week, I photographed the ending event for the Tysons Partnership 2018 Shoes4Kids donation drive. Similarly to last year’s event, members and guests arrived at the garage of the Dunn Loring fire station. Even though they did not have as many of the shoes on display this time, they still had plenty of donations from the Tysons community.

2018 Shoes4Kids Donation Drive

Speakers from the Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools talked about the need for shoes in at-risk families in our county. In reality these donations help to contribute to the success for these students by meeting a basic need. For this reason, it is an important initiative by the Partnership to bring awareness to this issue. Although we are in an affluent County overall, this is a vital resource for some in our community. It is heartening to see the contributions that so many put into making this a success!
