Studio Portraits

While in the studio last year, I reserved some time to make headshots for TEDx Tysons contributors. These were all done prior to the pandemic lock down. At this time they still had speaking and other events to prepare. From speaker coaching, venue logistics, and coordinating volunteers, it is a team effort to pull them off.

With this in mind, I wanted to contribute more than just the event photos to their efforts. I have been exposed to some incredible people while photographing these events. Of course, the talks and the speakers are as inspiring as you have seen on videos.

However, I have been equally inspired by the people working behind the scenes. They are driven to build a community in Tysons. Moreover, they create places for discussion with other attendees between talks. It is here that I see the power of what they are building. These ideas as spreading face to face, not on an internet comment board.

By all means they are planning to return to their events once this is all over. For now, they have many presentations available on their YouTube channel. It is inspiring to listen, absorb, and participate!

Capital One Center Movies

Tysons, Virginia

The weekends are now filled with more activities as we figure out what kind of events can be held while socially distancing. With this in mind the Capital One Center Movies are a terrific way to get out and enjoy some summer activities! In fact, you can get in a movie on a big screen, food delivery from Curbside Kitchen, and fresh air out of the house!

Obviously, I am excited about working with a new client. At this time, Capital One has the tallest building in the landscape with more on the way. Tysons East is anticipating a performance arts space, a Wegman’s, and other new spaces that are quickly rising into the sky. Hopefully, I can get more photos. The towering M2 tower dominates the skyline here, and makes for a recognizable landmark here.

Every weekend, they are showing 3 movies from Friday to Sunday. Donations made during the event benefit the nonprofit, Second Story. The pandemic and subsequent lock down has created a need for support. For this reason, it is a great cause to support.

As can be seen, the spaced-out layout of cars gives you plenty of room to tailgate. I particularly enjoyed seeing how families are setting up a spread for the drive in. Also, it has just been fun to get out of the house to make more Tysons photos. Stay tuned to the blog, I look forward to making more photos at the expanding Capital One Center!

Tysons, Virginia

Late in 2019, I photographed the opening of car chargers from EVgo – Pike 7 Plaza. In another step in the continuing development of Tysons, these electric car chargers added power options for the growing electric car market. At this time, VIPs from EVgo, Federal Realty, and the Commonwealth of Virginia attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. Stacy from TEDxTysons referred me to cover this event. As can be seen, this station is in the heart of the newest developments in Tysons.

Being a technology geek, this opening overall sparked my interest. Although they are becoming more popular, I am not that familiar with electric cars. While covering this event, I learned more about the partnerships between EVgo and Virginia to create more charging places throughout the state. In short, they have made it possible to travel throughout Virginia in an electric vehicle with the range of the cars, and the distance between stations. Even if gasoline powered vehicles are still the majority, this feels like the future!
