Tysons, Virginia

When you get the opportunity to get above Tysons, I would take it! Since the skyline is changing so rapidly, you need to capture these slices of time when you can. As can be seen, these were taken 2 years ago, and already there are new additions completed, and occupied. Surely there are more on the way!

On this occasion, an early-morning call gave us the best chance to get some good light on the buildings. From such a high vantage point, we could easily track the light as the sun rose. A light cloud cover bounced some of the early dawn light back below making them highlight the buildings starting from the top. Similarly to my early shoot at the Grand Canyon, I was not as familiar with how the light would act from there. It was my first time at the top of this Capital One tower.

Higher is always better for photos. Although I am not a fan of heights, I enjoy looking back at these images. For one thing, this is a privilege to get access to such a perspective over Tysons. Secondly, these photos can help show off our area in a great light! It is progressing higher with the prospect of being more residential to add to the many businesses already based here. As long as I can stand it, I’ll be up to scale more tall buildings if asked!

Capital One Center Movies

Tysons, Virginia

The weekends are now filled with more activities as we figure out what kind of events can be held while socially distancing. With this in mind the Capital One Center Movies are a terrific way to get out and enjoy some summer activities! In fact, you can get in a movie on a big screen, food delivery from Curbside Kitchen, and fresh air out of the house!

Obviously, I am excited about working with a new client. At this time, Capital One has the tallest building in the landscape with more on the way. Tysons East is anticipating a performance arts space, a Wegman’s, and other new spaces that are quickly rising into the sky. Hopefully, I can get more photos. The towering M2 tower dominates the skyline here, and makes for a recognizable landmark here.

Every weekend, they are showing 3 movies from Friday to Sunday. Donations made during the event benefit the nonprofit, Second Story. The pandemic and subsequent lock down has created a need for support. For this reason, it is a great cause to support.

As can be seen, the spaced-out layout of cars gives you plenty of room to tailgate. I particularly enjoyed seeing how families are setting up a spread for the drive in. Also, it has just been fun to get out of the house to make more Tysons photos. Stay tuned to the blog, I look forward to making more photos at the expanding Capital One Center!

Capital One Headquarters

Earlier this month the Tysons Partnership released their 2020 Annual Report. Being that this is the first event of the 3rd year working with them, I was proud to be included. Not only in this event, but seeing that many of my images were used throughout their report. In case you get a chance to download the report, please give me some feedback on the images in there.

Commercial photography has such a different audience compared to personal projects for clients. At the venue alone, there was a diverse group that was taking home printed examples of my work. As a result, there is a much better chance that I can refer to the report as an example of my previous experience. Thus it is another way for me to market my own skills while providing a needed service for my client. It really works both ways!
