Industrious – Arlington, Virginia

Andrew Clark led another non-profits panel discussion at Industrious for the Tysons Chamber. At the Courthouse location, he moderated the 2019 Charity to Change event. Erin Fuller, Tucker Wannamaker, and Sid Ghatak were on the panel in particular for their experience in charitable organizations.

Panel Discussion

Once the panelists were introduced the topic really took off. To illustrate the common challenges in working with their organizations, their comments seemed to resonate with the audience. Being that they all had similar experiences, they were receptive to suggestions, and strategies going forward. In short, this was another well-received event by Andrew. His series of bringing together nonprofits has connected leaders in these organizations. They do important work, but need each other’s support to be successful. I look forward to the next one!

Affordable Housing – Tysons Partnership

Tysons Partnership Forum at Freddie Mac ©TimeLine Media

Freddie Mac, McLean, VA

Prior to Thanksgiving, I photographed an Affordable Housing event for the Tysons Partnership. As much as I relish photographing the soaring towers that are changing the skyline, having access to housing is an important issue that does not get as much attention. It was important to realize that this was part of the Comprehensive Plan for Tysons.

This was another event in which the Partnership exposed me to a new venue in Tysons. The Freddie Mac headquarters is another high-tech building among a sprawling campus of buildings. On this occasion there were panels and speakers presenting ideas to achieve the housing goals of the Comprehensive Plan. Afterwards, the attendees broke into groups to start hashing out some of the details. Of course, this is not something that would be solved in one meeting. However, this was a very tangible look at the process of how collaborations like this will create a future community!

2019 Winter Showcase photos Released

DC Area Arthur Murray Studios

The photos from last Saturday’s 2019 Winter Showcase have been released! It was our last Arthur Murray event for the 2019. We edited and sorted the photos as quickly as possible. Here is the link to the collection:

In general, I think we have everyone where they should be. However, if there is a couple in the wrong studio, please let me know!

This event was a good one compared to other simply due to the music selections. Since the students can work with the staff to pick their own tracks for their routines, there is more of a variety than normal. Interpreting a track, especially if it is a popular song, can help you visualize something familiar in a new way. It emphasizes the creativity in a new way, and is another avenue of learning dance from school figures. I wonder if that influences how the judges view the routines. Perhaps they had their own thoughts on how a dance will meld with a song. How will they react if they see something different presented on the floor?

The competition heats in the All-Arounds were very full this time! In order to rank all the couples, there were many heats that needed semi-final rounds to accommodate so many entries. By the evening, the excitement in the competition was really high. After the rest for dinner, the crowd was enthusiastically cheering for their studio-mates!
