Prior to Thanksgiving, I photographed an Affordable Housing event for the Tysons Partnership. As much as I relish photographing the soaring towers that are changing the skyline, having access to housing is an important issue that does not get as much attention. It was important to realize that this was part of the Comprehensive Plan for Tysons.
This was another event in which the Partnership exposed me to a new venue in Tysons. The Freddie Mac headquarters is another high-tech building among a sprawling campus of buildings. On this occasion there were panels and speakers presenting ideas to achieve the housing goals of the Comprehensive Plan. Afterwards, the attendees broke into groups to start hashing out some of the details. Of course, this is not something that would be solved in one meeting. However, this was a very tangible look at the process of how collaborations like this will create a future community!
The 2019 Summer Showcase photos are expiring! These photos from this Arthur Murray event in Tysons were so much fun to make. Thank you to everyone that purchased photos of their routines. While they are usually for yourself, I know that many teachers will get them as gifts! Until they are archived the photos will be here:
Now that I look over the photos, I am really in awe! After all the work that the studio staff on their regular schedule was done, they came together to rehearse this show. In the first place, they had to choreograph, and practice their section. Then, they had to pull all seven studios in one place to get the final show together. Being that there are so many moving parts, personalities, and schedules, this was a huge undertaking.
Thanks again for visiting the site and for sharing the photos. Given that this Hollywood Show was such a spectacle, I recommend going to the Dance-o-rama at National Harbor to see it again! Also, I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving. While the sesaon may be busy, the photos will still be here, so take your time – I’ll leave them up until early next year!
Kris Allen returned to Tysons for the 2019 Christmas Tree Lighting event. Prior to this year, he had visited in 2016 at the holidays for the same occasion. Still I don’t think Santa thinks that Kris will be stealing his job anytime soon! In contrast to the last time Kris performed, the weather was markedly colder out on the Plaza.
Plaza Christmas Tree
While the concert was still going on, I walked through the Plaza away from the Concourse. Straightaway you can see the beautiful curving urban design of the space. Previously, I made my favorite image of the Plaza from this fire pit. Although the sky did not have the nice blue color that the original had, I still attempt to get this photo every year. When all the lights on the tree are lit, and combined with the colored light on the Hyatt, it just looks like the holidays in Tysons. So maybe this is a new Christmas tradition for me? What kinds of photos do you look forward to making every year?
